About this book

With a lively, refreshing writing style, the author reflects upon lessons she learned directly from Dr. Viktor Frankl, world renowned author of Man’s Search for Meaning. She shares riveting accounts of people around the world who are discovering significance through living authentically and purposefully in the midst of change, challenge, and chaos.

Drawing on her professional background as well as years of cross-cultural and global experiences, Geri Marr Burdman emphasizes the vital importance of seeking purpose and meaning regardless of age, geography, or circumstances. As We Think... So We Age explores life review as a critical pathway to meaningful aging.

From the book

The search for significance has many faces, and the humblest among us are often the greatest teachers. Late one afternoon, as I looked around the LifeSpring Thrift Shop, a tall East African woman with a tiny babe in arms walked up to me and held a fuchsia-colored raw silk dress next to her high-cheek-boned ebony face. She asked, “Would I dare wear this?” I answered: “Of course; it is beautiful!” […]

I commented, “Your children are so well mannered and you are very patient and kind.” She looked at me with the most gracious smile and softly whispered, “I love them so.”

As this mother paid for her few articles of clothing and left the store with her three children in tow, I suddenly realized that I had encountered a teacher. That mother touched my life with her quiet grace. Though I do not know her name, I remember her often. She stands tall… with deep roots!pp. 59–60
